Snoring Often A Result Of Bad Habits
Many people suffer from snoring. Fortunately, the most common causes of snoring are simply a result of lifestyle choices. If your partner keeps you up at night snoring then it might be time to suggest some positive life changes because snoring can usually be easily prevented. It isn’t just others that stay awake all night from someone snoring- snorers, too, suffer from restless sleep.
Habits that Cause Snoring
The causes of snoring are varied but most of them are related to how a person chooses to live. Many people snore because they eat too much and don’t exercise enough. This can lead to obesity, which is one of the primary causes of snoring. Other lifestyle choices that affect snoring are: drinking too much alcohol, smoking cigarettes, or taking sleeping pills. The position in which one sleeps can affect snoring and so can nasal congestion.
Too Much Food, Not Enough Activity
For those that eat to much and/or exercise to little, weight could be a contributing factor to snoring. Being overweight, even just by ten pounds or so, is one of the common causes of snoring. A buildup of skin and fat around the neck often compresses the airway while we sleep and this can cause snoring. Luckily a reduction in body fat can easily remedy this problem- as well as provide other benefits.
Are You Drinking Too Much?
Alcoholics also tend to have snoring problems. Some people only snore after drinking alcohol and this is an indication that they are probably drinking too much. Alcohol is a depressant and this causes the esophageal muscles to relax more than they normally do. This paired with the slower reaction time resulting from alcohol intake can be one of the causes of snoring. Luckily, this problem can be avoided altogether by not drinking alcohol or by drinking less alcohol.
Sleeping Posture
Another of the causes of snoring is the position in which you sleep. For many people, sleeping on the back causes them to snore. This is particularly true for those that are a little bit overweight. The fat around the the neck might compress the throat too much. This makes it much more difficult to breath and might lead to snoring.
A Stuffy Nose
One of the most common causes of snoring is the result of nasal congestion. Sometimes this is the result of allergies or a head cold. However, smoking is another common cause of congestion. If you are a snorer and you smoke then quitting smoking could solve your problem. Most of these causes of snoring can be treated with a hot shower or over the counter medication.
