Impressive Restless Leg Syndrome Approach That Relieves You Of The Symptoms

Until recently, Restless Leg Syndrome was a relatively unreported condition even though it affects as much as 10 percent of the population. The reason being, there is no way, other than the sufferer’s verbal description, to diagnose or any physical way to prove it’s existence. This has caused considerable resistance from medical professionals and patients alike to acknowledge it as an actual disease. The RLS Foundation reports that this condition remains widely unknown and easily misunderstood.

The symptoms of Restless Legs can range from a mild discomfort to an extreme pain in the legs resulting in a strong desire to move the legs to provide some form of relief. The symptoms usually occur at night right before bed time which leads to a serious problem with sleeping. This lack of sleep has a significant impact on concentration during the day causing serious problems at work and performing daily chores. Because this condition is not life threatening it doesn’t receive the same level of urgency as with more harmful conditions.

The RLS Foundation conducted a study, using more than eleven hundred volunteers, and found that nearly 60% of the volunteers were not even aware of the disease. It wasn’t until they were given a detailed description of the disease that almost a quarter of them stated that they or someone they knew had experienced the symptoms associated with RLS.

Today’s medical community, under the direction of The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), continue to try to identify the root cause of the disease in hopes that this discovery will lead to a permanent cure. Their objective is to better understand this disease that will lead to improved methods to diagnose and treat this condition. Additionally, these attempts have given good cause to believe that this disease is genetic due to the number of family members who share in the symptoms.

Additionally, a major medical institute conducted some experiments involving over forty five hundred volunteers, age ranging from 20 to 70, in an attempt to identify the root cause of Restless Leg Syndrome. What they discovered is that RLS is tied to the central nervous system and that more than 93% of sufferers shared in a bodily deficiency. And, those who did not suffer from this condition had this mineral in abundance.

Ever since this condition began to surface, there have been large leaps of progress and a lot more effort in educating people who believe they have Restless Leg Syndrome. There are a number of medical professionals who believe there is a direct link between RLS and other diseases such as Parkinson’s disease or diabetes. They found that the treatment for these diseases also provide a measurable amount of relief for those suffering from RLS. But, still short of being considered a cure.

Regarding the pharmaceutical approach, there tends to be some resistance within the medical community primarily because this condition is not life threatening and the drugs assigned to treat this disease come with some very serious warning labels. Besides, these drugs also have a tendency to become less effective over time and even run into the complication of augmentation. Augmentation is where the drug tends to work when taken yet, the symptoms begin to return earlier during the following day. This unfortunately results in a continued need for new prescription drugs with even more serious warning labels.

As the pharmaceutical companies continue to mass produce their very profitable but dangerous drugs, that only focus on the symptoms and do nothing for the root cause, there is a noticeable movement towards finding alternative methods. These alternative methods range from conventional methods that treat other diseases to taking a more natural approach. Today’s modern medical community is discovering more each day on how non-conventional methods such as natural alternatives can play a greater role in treating most of today’s incurable diseases.
