Properly Meditating Using Guided Imagery

Meditation is one very effective way to address sleeping problems. If you are having trouble falling asleep, meditation might be your ticket to a way out of those sleepless nights. There are many different types of meditation but each type has specific procedures relatively varying from the other types. One type of meditation is through guided imagery which is gaining popularity these days. Guided imagery employs hypnosis through visual imagery. By creating an image that exemplifies relaxation in the mind you achieve a state of rest.

But before you can start with the treatment you would have to comply with some basic requirements first to fully optimize the meditation process. One would be to find a room completely insulated from any external and internal distractions. Second is to find a convenient position to begin with. After that you can begin with the next steps.

1. Seek a relaxation point

Finding your relaxation point would require you to visualize certain things. These things should exemplify peacefulness and harmony. An example to this is to visualize a place where you are most peaceful to be at. A garden or an empty room are good choices. Yet again, that depends on you what you prefer and interpret to be peaceful.

2. Chill and Relax

Perhaps the most important and crucial step in order to have a good meditation is physical relaxation. Release the tension in your muscles by putting your body at ease in the most comfortable position to you. Once you are able attain this state, the next steps will be relatively easier.

3. Peace of Mind

In order to achieve a genuine calmness of the mind, you have to get rid of any random flow of thoughts in your head. These random thoughts often confuse the mind and diverting your attention into something else apart from the procedure. It is imperative to keep the mind focused into one thing and not on the much random stuff. One helpful tip to successfully achieve a calmness of the mind is to constantly retain only a single thought in the head and hold on to it. Keep coming back at that thought every time your thoughts drift.

4. Breath Properly

Breathing properly entails long, deep and slow breaths. You need not to overdo it though. Just keep it simple and easy in a relaxed kind of way. Make it a point that every after one breath cycle you get to be more and more relaxed. Focus on your breathing would also help your mind focus on the essentials of the meditation process.

5. Go deep

Sink in deeper to that relaxed feeling you are gradually feeling right now. This is basically indulging more and more to the state you are currently through vis–vis the process. Feel your state of mind and physical systems consolidate into a certain sense of oneness.

6. Create an Image in the Mind

Now you can start visualizing or projecting an image in your mind. The image that culminates all that you feel right as of the moment while going through the meditation process. It doesn’t have to take a regular form; it can be free flowing and irregular in shape but just as long as you can perfectly visualize the idea of it.
